Shooter of the Year
The Shooter of the Year (SOY) Program includes a broad array of tournaments, offering a complete representation of the NFAA's best all-around archer in each category. Point multipliers are applied to tournament rankings to reflect each event’s prestige and longstanding tradition within the NFAA calendar. The SOY categories include all NFAA shooting styles, ensuring that every archer has the opportunity to be recognized for their outstanding achievements.
Shooter of the year events & base points
Provided there are eligible archers, a SOY winner will be named in each SOY category.
Scores from all divisions grouped within the same SOY category will be combined to determine placement points.
Example: For the Adult Male Freestyle SOY category at the NFAA Indoor Nationals, scores from the following male freestyle divisions will be cumulated: Adult, Senior, Silver Senior, and Master Senior. The rankings from these cumulated scores will then be used to determine the allocation of SOY placement points.
At NFAA Foundation events, archers competing in the Flights division will be ranked by gender, with separate ranking points awarded for male and female competitors. Scores for amateur archers competing in a Championship division will be combined with the respective Flights division for placement point allocation purposes after the amateur has completed at least three other SOY events in the Adult SOY category.
For The Vegas Shoot, scores for archers in the Championship Young Adult division will be based only on their performance from Day 1 and Day 2. These scores will then be combined and ranked alongside the other NFAA Foundation Divisions within their SOY category.
Archers must compete in at least 4 SOY events within the same SOY category to qualify.
An archer’s top 6 placement points (including event multipliers) within the same SOY category will count toward the final SOY standings.
If an NFAA division is not offered at an NFAA Foundation event, archers will receive 2 base points (multiplied by the event factor) for participating in the event in another SOY category.
Example: SOY placement points are not be awarded at The Vegas Shoot for the Adult Longbow SOY category. Longbow archers may earn 5 points toward Adult Longbow SOY for participating in another SOY category at The Vegas Shoot.
Professional archers are eligible to earn +2 bonus points for attending each Pro-Am or Meet the Pros event. A maximum of 6 bonus points may be earned each year.
If an archer competes in one or more SOY events as a Young Adult prior to their 18th birthday, they will remain in the Junior SOY category for the entirety of the season. The archer's placement points in the Adult division for the remainder of the season will count toward the Junior SOY category.
