NUBABILITY GETS LIMB-DIFFERENT KIDS INTO OUTDOORS AT BIG SKY CAMP
Limb-Different Outdoorsmen Promote Inclusion at Labor Day Weekend Event
DUQUOIN, IL (August 22, 2024) - NubAbility® Athletics Foundation announced today that its NubAbility Outdoors division will hold a four-day outdoor adventure camp for limb-different children in Bigfork, MT August 30th through September 2nd. Hosted by Adaptive Journeys on a private ranch, the camp will feature instruction from limb-different coaches in archery, fishing, hiking, marksmanship and water sports. In addition, children will participate in a trail ride, eat a chuckwagon dinner, learn Native American traditions and set up a teepee, cook meals over a campfire and sleep in tents. NubAbility is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that helps limb-different children discover courage and confidence through participation in outdoor experiences as well as organized sports.
“We believe in the power of a mentor who looks like you,” said Sam Kuhnert, NubAbility founder and executive director. “Our NubAbility Outdoors programming matches limb-different children with highly experienced limb-different outdoorsmen for skill development and mentorship.” Children who attend a NubAbility Outdoors camp discover the techniques and tools needed to participate in mainstream outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing; at the same time, they develop long lasting friendships with other campers and coaches.
Major camp sponsors include Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s Outdoor Fund, DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation and Adaptive Journeys.
NubAbility’s Big Sky Camp is open to limb-different children ages nine to seventeen with congenital or traumatic limb difference, frozen limb or cerebral palsy. One parent must attend with each child. The cost is $399/person and includes four days of camp programming, all meals, and lodging onsite in tents. Scholarship applications are available.
