2025 National Roundup: Champions Crowned in Yankton

The 2025 National Roundup brought together many of the best archers in the country for back-to-back national events at the NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Center. Athletes from 37 states and 4 different countries gathered in Yankton to compete in the First Dakota Classic and the NFAA Outdoor National Target Championships, showcasing incredible skill and grit across multiple formats.

First Dakota Classic: High-Stakes Head-to-Heads

The weekend kicked off with the 2025 First Dakota Classic. After qualification rounds on Friday, archers faced off in tense elimination matches on Saturday. The spotlight shone brightest on James Lutz, who prevailed in the Championship Compound Open, and Sharon Wallace, who claimed the title in Championship Compound Female.

With championship, flight, junior, and collegiate divisions in play, the First Dakota Classic offered opportunities for archers of all levels. Intense match play and cash prizes combined to make this year’s event one of the most competitive to date.

Outdoor Target Nationals: A Shoot-Off for the Ages

The action continued outdoors with the NFAA Outdoor National Target Championships, featuring two days of shooting on the outdoor target range. Athletes completed a Classic 600 Round on Saturday morning and a 900 Round on Sunday morning in pursuit of national titles.

The highlight came in the Professional Male Freestyle division, where a dramatic shoot-off between James Lutz and Robert Householder electrified the crowd. Lutz held his nerve to secure the win and cap off a remarkable weekend. In the Professional Female Freestyle division, Leann Drake rose to the top, taking home the championship title after consistent shooting across both days.

3-Star Shoot-Off

Another highlight of the weekend was the 3-Star Shoot Off, where archers who competed in all legs of the 3-Star Tour (First Dakota Classic, The Vegas Shoot, and Indoor Nationals) went head-to-head for bonus prize money. Chloe Nelsen came out on top of the Amateur division, winning $2,500. Levi Reitsma captured the win and the $5,000 grand prize in the Professional division. To celebrate the competitors and thank the community, the NFAA also hosted a free spaghetti feed as an archers’ appreciation event, giving athletes and families a chance to gather, relax, and enjoy a meal together.

Shooter of the Year

As the capstone of the NFAA season, the National Roundup also marked the presentation of the coveted Shooter of the Year awards — expanded this year to include recognition for the Junior divisions. To qualify for one of the most prestigious honors in NFAA competition, archers had to compete at all five major events of the season: The Vegas Shoot, NFAA National Indoor, First Dakota Classic, NFAA National Marked 3D, and NFAA Outdoor National Field. This year’s winners were: Professional Male – Bodie Turner, Professional Female – Paige Pearce, Professional Senior – Timothy Gillingham, Amateur Male – Christopher Robinson, Amateur Female – Catherine Belzner, Junior Male – Christopher Fong, and Junior Female – Ashley Fieldstad. Their consistency and dominance across multiple disciplines set them apart as the top performers of 2025.
