The NFAA congratulates DAVID ALLEN of Spring, Texas as the 2022 NFAA Member of the Year and the CITRUS ARCHERY CLUB of Spring Hill, Florida as the 2022 NFAA Club of the Year.
DAVID ALLEN has been a NFAA member for 18 years, is President of Buffalo Field Archery Club in Houston, Texas, and serves as Field Governor of District 3 on the Texas Field Archery Association (TFAA) Board. Keith Hughs nominated David and noted, “… He travels to all District 3 archery shops to help secure dates for the SYWAT (Shoot Your Way Across Texas) indoor events to be held during the indoor season. He is present at the events to greet all shooters new and old. He has been a positive influence with new archers helping to grow the sport. He runs the event with integrity and doesn't cut corners…” Jennifer Schneider also nominated David, “… He does his best to make fun monthly 3D shoots and comes up with great member events. Many young archers become successful because of David's efforts with TFAA.” David exemplifies what it means to be a great ambassador to the sport of archery, and the NFAA is proud to award him with this honor.
CITRUS ARCHERY CLUB has been chartered with the NFAA since 1978. The club provides a flex range for field, international, indoor, 900 target, and 3D events. Club members offer free coaching for local youth and host the county 4H Shooting Club, winter and summer leagues, and a summer Youth Days Program. The annual Youth Days program invites local youth groups to participate in a coaching series and climaxes with a Tournament Finale. David Ireland, a club representative, states, "Our best recommendation to anyone trying to build up their club is to look at your locale and decide where your archers are. Offer a program of the highest level of interest and diversify it enough to attract a wide number. Belonging to your State organization will help as it will provide a program foundation, promote your club and attract shooters to your program. Maintain routine club activities and keep things fun. Always include families and network for local youth. This is your future. Above all, provide access to the next level. Without a goal to achieve or something aspire to, there is no tomorrow." With the club's deep roots in the NFAA and steadfast perseverance to serving the community over the years, the CITRUS ARCHERY CLUB serves as a great example to aspiring clubs.
The inaugural Member of the Year and Club of the Year awards were given at the Opening Ceremonies of the 2023 Indoor National Championships. Nominations were accepted in Fall 2022 and winners were selected by an independent panel. Winners received a personalized plaque, feature in 2022 Q4 of Archery magazine, and $200 NFAA gift card.
