Spotlight on the Weekend at the Florida Archery Association International Round

2025 FAA State International Championships hosted by the Lee County Archers

Hosted this past weekend by Lee County Archers, the event featured a challenging international round under the auspices of the Florida Archery Association, using the classic “hunter” target face configuration — black and white targets — in an IFAA Field Round format.

Competitors from across Florida turned out to test their skills on variable distances and terrains. The use of hunter target faces added a layer of difficulty: the reduced contrast of black and white rings (versus full?color targets) demands sharp sighting, consistent form, and keen mental focus.

From the published results, two archers stood out for their exceptional scores:

Ari Alvarez-Depner (Lee County Archers) posted a total of 581 + Sub 293 = 874 in the YMFS (Younger Male Freestyle) category. (floridaarchery.org
)
This score is the highest in the results list, and it reflects strong consistency across both main distances (293 and 288) with an excellent “Sub” round of 293. Such a performance under the more demanding black & white hunter faces is very impressive — he clearly carried strong focus through each stage of the round.

Michael LaRowe (Lee County Archers) recorded a total of 559 + Sub 288 = 847 in the SSMFS (Senior Senior Male Freestyle) category. (floridaarchery.org
)
Michael’s score places him firmly among the top performers. His Sub-round of 288 is especially noteworthy, showing that his accuracy held up even in the final portion of the competition. For the senior class to sustain that level of precision signals excellent training, stamina, and mental composure.

Congratulations to Ari Alvarez-Depner and Michael LaRowe for their standout performances this weekend. Their results underline the growing strength of archery talent in Florida, and the importance of precision and consistency — especially in more demanding formats like the IFAA field round using hunter target faces.

We thank Lee County Archers for hosting and the Florida Archery Association for supporting a smoothly run, competitive event.
