Building the Future of Archery: NFAA’s Next Shot Initiative

The NFAA is committed to growing archery participation across the United States through its new Next Shot Initiative. Designed to strengthen the future of the sport, this program bridges the critical gap between introductory and recreational archery experiences and long-term involvement as either bowhunters or competitive tournament archers.

The Next Shot Initiative focuses on building sustainable pathways that help archers stay engaged beyond their first exposure to the sport. By partnering with local clubs, archery shops, state agencies, colleges and universities, and other organizations, the NFAA aims to increase participation in safe archery activities while promoting conservation awareness and responsible outdoor recreation.

Funded by a generous grant from the Easton Foundations, the Next Shot Initiative represents a significant investment in the long-term health of archery nationwide. This support enables the NFAA to address participation challenges holistically by expanding access to quality facilities, instruction, and mentorship. These efforts are critical to recruiting, retaining, and reactivating archers and bowhunters, ensuring that participants remain connected to the sport well beyond their initial experience and helping preserve archery’s legacy for future generations.

Key components of the Next Shot Initiative include:

- Certifying archery ranges and assisting with range creation, improvement, and updates
- Enhancing the Explore Bowhunting program and expanding online instructor certification
- Creating participation pathways after high school through collaboration with colleges and universities
- Streamlining mentorship opportunities for novice archers

By working together as a national archery community, the NFAA believes these efforts will strengthen participation, support conservation goals, and secure a vibrant future for archery across the country.

The Next Shot Initiative is currently in the planning phases. For more information or to discuss partnership opportunities, please contact Joanne Martonik, NFAA National Outreach Director, at jmartonik@nfaausa.com.
